Slovenian prime minister Janez Janša attacked Slovenian non-governmental organizations on Twitter rhetorically and cynically asking if anybody knows if there is Slovenian NGO’s output at all. Janša mentioned many NGOs that have invaluable role in civil society, Transparency International Slovenia, Amnesty International Slovenije, Slovenska filantropija, Association SOS Helpline for women and children – victims of violence, among others.
Just in 2021, Association SOS Helpline offered 24/7 telephone counseling to 3462 women and children – victims of violence in different languages and free of charge psychotherapy to 122 of them. Besides that, they offered safe and secure place for 109 victims of domestic violence in their two safe houses. Association SOS Helpline exists for 33 years. It was the first NGO in Slovenia that opened NGO-run shelter for victims of domestic violence. For their important work, they received Slovenian’s President medal in 2015.
Regarding to above mentioned, Maja Plaz (president of Association SOS Helpline for women and children – victims of violence) was a guest speaker on Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia): https://www.rtvslo.si/rtv365/arhiv/174850375?s=tv
